Dr. Henry A. Moses Scholarship for Medical Speech-Language Pathology

This scholarship is open to applicants pursuing a Masters or PhD degree in speech language pathology in a program accredited by ASHA’s Council on Academic Accreditation, who have a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in medical speech-language pathology. The one recipient will receive $1,000 scholarship. Applicants must submit a resume (including educational background and previous academic, work, or volunteer experiences) and an essay (up to 500 words) describing their career goals and interests in medical speech pathology.

The Culturally Responsive, Trauma Informed, Globally Engaged Scholarship

ELIBILITY CRITERIA:

• Undergraduate or graduate students of color enrolled full time and in good standing in a speech-language pathology program.
• Awardees must submit a statement of interest of 500 words demonstrating their interest or experiences in working in the U.S. or globally with children who are marginalized.
• Preferences will be given to applicants who have demonstrated interest in working with children and/or adolescents who have social pragmatic communication challenges, and children who have one or more of the following characteristics:
  • speak more than one language and/or language variety
  • are impoverished
  • are forcibly displaced migrants, or
  • have a history of trauma resulting from maltreatment and/or adverse childhood experiences.

This scholarship should be used to support tuition, research endeavors, conference attendance, and/or participation in a study abroad course to a majority world country (i.e., countries with an HDI of .550 or less such as those in sub Saharan Africa; some parts of South & East Asia; South & Central America; and the Caribbean).

Two students will receive $1000 each.. Scholarships will be awarded at the NBASLH convention. Attending the NBASLH convention will not be required.

The Master Clinician Network 

The Master Clinician Network is excited to offer a $1,000 scholarship that will go to one student member of NBASLH who has demonstrated leadership potential with reference to increasing diversity in the discipline of communication sciences and disorders.

Applicants should submit a resume (including educational background, academic work or accolades, community service and/or leadership experiences), a 750-word essay describing what leadership means to you, and one reference letter to verify your leadership potential.

Student Registration Scholarships

We are excited to announce the Roundtree Group & Talking Tadpoles NBASLH Student Convention Award! This $500 award is designed to support a student who identifies as Black or African American with attending the 2026 National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing (NBASLH) Convention in Atlanta, GA.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

• Must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
• Must be in good academic standing
• Must identify as Black or African American.
• Must attend the 2026 NBASLH Convention in-person.
• Must submit a short video (less than 2 minutes) on what it means to be a culturally responsive practitioner and why it is important to you.

Student Travel Scholarships

This award is for any current undergraduate or graduate student in the speech and hearing sciences. Each award is $500, which the student can use toward reimbursement of monies spent on any travel expenses related to the NBASLH Annual Convention, including transportation and lodging. Each award recipient will be required to complete and sign a commitment form to register for the NBASLH Convention and to volunteer for the annual awards gala and to moderate at least two sessions during the convention. This award is in the form of a check once the student has completed their service at the convention. The number of travel awards available varies from year to year. Self-nominations for awards are permitted.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

• Verification of a GPA‐3.0 (this can be either transcript or verification by a faculty advisor)
• 500‐word essay that describes the benefits and objectives of attending the Convention
• Letter of recommendation from a faculty advisor
• Complete and sign a commitment form to register for the NBASLH Convention and to volunteer during the awards gala and moderate at least two sessions during the convention

High School Student Travel Scholarships

The NBASLH High School Travel Award supports an eligible high school student and their parent or legal guardian to attend an NBASLH Annual Convention. 

The award recipient will also be connected with a student and professional mentor and an undergraduate program nearest to them. 

Award includes $800 as support towards travel and food expenses to, during, and from the convention location city; one (1) complimentary standard  student registration, (1) guest registration, and a 2-night stay at the convention host hotel.  

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

• Junior or Senior enrolled full-time at a high school in the United States.
• Identifies as Black or African American.
• Strong interest in a future career as an audiologist or speech-language pathologist.
• Must be able and willing to travel to the convention location of the year in which they are applying.
• Recipient and parent or legal guardian must personally attend the NBASLH Annual Convention to claim the travel stipend. 
• 500-word personal statement on (1) their interest in the profession and (2) what they hope to gain from attending the NBASLH Annual Convention.
• Letter of support from a teacher, counselor, or academic advisor.

• Official copy of High school transcript.

The Resiliency Scholarship: In Honor of Dr. Kenyatta Rivers

The National Black Association for Speech‐Language and Hearing (NBASLH) invites students to submit to a scholarship program that highlights improvement in academics. The winner must be a graduate student enrolled in a Speech Language Pathology and/or Audiology program and will receive $500. Awards will be presented during NBASLH’s Annual Convention on April 9 - 11, 2026, in Atlanta, GA.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

• Student who is enrolled full‐time in an ASHA‐accredited graduate studies in Communication Disorders.
• Student must have demonstrated improvement in academics within the past year.
• Student must aspire to become a Speech-Language Pathologist, Audiologist, or Speech Scientist.
• Student must have at least a 3.0 GPA in Communication Disorder coursework and must submit a current transcript.
• Student must be of African-American, Afro-Latinx, Afro-Caribbean or African descent.
• Student should submit a 200-300 word essay in PDF format that describes their recent efforts and success with improving their academic performance as evidenced by an increased GPA. The essay should include information about ways in which they were able to stay encouraged, protect and improve their mindset, and employ strategies and tools to reach their academic goals.
• Attending the NBASLH convention will not be required.
